Ladies & Gentlemen es mi primera serie de fotografía callejera y aquí muestro los momentos espontáneos de lo que me he encontrado allá por donde he fotografiado. Ladies & Gentlemen no tiene fecha de caducidad, la serie seguirá creciendo mientras yo pueda fotografiar.
Ladies & Gentlemen es una serie con un poco de humor por el nombre que se se le ha dado a cada foto y por el momento capturado, aplicando contrastes entre sujetos/objetos/sujetos. En este post te explico un poco más acerca de la serie. #ladiesandgentlemen
Llevo fotografiando las calles más de 10 años y aunque en los últimos seis meses ha habido un parón, antes, no había un sólo día que saliese de casa sin cámara, siempre me ha gustado la calle y observar lo que ahí pasa y desde que descubrí la fotografía supe que ahí tenía un cuaderno en blanco para rememorar en el futuro lo que un día vi.
Empecé a fotografiar y los resultados vinieron con el tiempo una vez supe qué es lo que quería fotografiar y cómo habría de hacerlo. No ha sido fácil ni costado poco tiempo pero al final y después de estos años y más de veinte mil fotografías disparadas sé lo que busco y algunas veces sé hasta como encontrarlo

¿Por qué una serie?
Una serie es un conjunto de fotografías simples que tienen relación entre ellas bien por el contenido de lo fotografiado o bien por lo que quiera expresar el fotógrafo con el nombre, título o pie de cada foto, además de ser un buen método para clasificar, ordenar y seguir aumentando tu portfolio.
Cuando uno empieza a fotografiar las calles va consiguiendo fotografías y alguna de las que se consigue es una imagen impactante pero muchas veces se va sin rumbo fijo hacia lo que se quiere fotografiar, y eso, a la larga, hace que te vayas cansando de salir con la cámara y por ende de fotografiar. En cambio, si vas clasificando tu trabajo mediante series (o cualquier otro tipo de combinación tales como dípticos, trípticos o incluso un proyecto) hará que salgas de casa sabiendo qué es lo que tienes que fotografiar
Un amigo fotógrafo japonés siempre me dice en tono de broma pero muy en serie. Una fotografía mala es una fotografía mala pero 100 fotografías hacen una serie. Ojo!, no quiero que me malinterpretes, sólo espero que entiendas el poder de clasificar las fotos

¿Por qué poner un título o un pie de foto en tus imágenes?
En un post anterior expliqué el porqué empecé a titular mis fotografías cuando nunca lo había hecho y en resumidas cuentas es para ayudar a las personas a encontrar ciertos detalles que potencien la imagen, darles información, guiarles dentro de la foto.
Me pasó en una (en todas) de mis exposiciones que la gente veía mis fotos como el que pasa por la estantería de los detergentes de un supermercado, rápido y sin prestar atención a los fotografiado limitándose a decir lo ¨bonita¨ que era la foto en cuestión.
Yo no quiero que mis fotos sean bonitas, quiero que las entiendas
Me enojaba mucho ver la poca atención que se prestaba a las imágenes y al final descubrí que la culpa era toda mía y nada más que mía. ¿Qué culpa tiene uno de no saber? Me pasa a mí cuando voy a cualquier lado donde no tengo ni idea de lo que ahí hablan o exponen y sólo cuando alguien me explica es cuando empiezo a entender y a ver las cosas. Así que no me quedaba otra que explicar a la gente lo que en mis imágenes hay.
Mira esta foto. ¿qué ves? Seguramente tu respuesta sea gente con un móvil dentro de una vagón de metro y un niño en un carrito, hasta ahí bien, es lo que hay y ya está, en una exposición te costaría verlo menos de diez segundos y pasarías a la siguiente foto, todo el mundo lo haría. ¿Qué es lo que tiene que hacer el fotógrafo para crear más atención en la fotografía? Mi experiencia me ha dicho que es el artista el que debe guiar al espectador.
Imagina que el fotógrafo pone un pie de foto hablando o dando sentido al escudo en la camisa blanca del muchacho de la derecha, en ese caso el espectador iría a ver primero qué narices pone en ese escudo, o porqué la muchacha de la derecha está silbando, el espectador inmediatamente iría a ver qué detalles tiene esa muchacha....Esta foto tiene como título ¨El bebé que se sorprendió de que una niña no tuviera móvil¨ y ése mismo título refuerza la fotografía y hace que el espectador se quede más tiempo observando la imagen y entienda el significado de la misma.
Cuando entendí esto pude ver como la gente leía, apreciaba y les gustaba más mis imágenes, así que empecé a poner pies de fotos a todas mis fotografías y cómo no, en mi serie Ladies & Gentlemen todas las fotografías tienen esa pequeña ayuda para el observador.

I have been photographing the streets for more than 10 years and although in the last six months there has been a break, before, there was not a single day that I left home without a camera, I have always liked the street and observing what happens there and since I discovered photography I knew that there I had a blank notebook to remember in the future what I saw one day.
I started to photograph and the results came with time once I knew what I wanted to photograph and how I was going to do it. It hasn't been easy and it didn't take me long, but in the end and after all these years and more than twenty thousand photographs taken, I know what I'm looking for and sometimes I even know how to find it.

Why a series?
A series is a set of simple photographs that are related to each other either by the content of the photographed or by what the photographer wants to express with the name, title or caption of each photo, besides being a good method to classify, order and continue increasing your portfolio.
When you start to photograph the streets, you get photographs and some of those you get are striking images, but often you go aimlessly towards what you want to photograph, and that, in the long run, makes you get tired of going out with the camera and therefore of photographing. On the other hand, if you classify your work in series (or any other type of combination such as diptychs, triptychs or even a project), you will leave home knowing what you have to photograph.
A Japanese photographer friend of mine always tells me in a joking but very serial way. One bad photograph is one bad photograph but 100 photographs make a series. I don't want you to misunderstand me, I just hope you understand the power of classifying photos.

Why write a title or caption on your images?
In a previous post I explained why I started to title my photographs when I had never done it before and in short it is to help people to find certain details that enhance the image, to give them information, to guide them into the photo.
It happened to me in one (in all) of my exhibitions that people saw my photos as if they were passing by the detergent shelf in a supermarket, quickly and without paying attention to the photographed, just saying how "beautiful" the photo in question was.
I don't want my photos to be pretty, I want you to understand them.
It made me very angry to see how little attention was paid to the images and in the end I discovered that it was all my fault and nothing more than mine. What is one's fault for not knowing? It happens to me when I go anywhere where I have no idea what they are talking about and only when someone explains it to me do I begin to understand and see things. So I had no choice but to explain to people what is in my images.
Look at this photo. What do you see? Your answer will probably be people with a mobile phone inside a metro carriage and a child in a pushchair, so far so good, that's it and that's it, in an exhibition it would take you less than ten seconds to see it and you'd move on to the next picture, everyone would do it. What does the photographer have to do to create more attention in the photograph? My experience has told me that it is the artist who must guide the viewer.
Imagine that the photographer puts a caption talking about or making sense of the crest on the white shirt of the boy on the right, in that case the viewer would first go to see what the hell is on that crest, or why the girl on the right is whistling, the viewer would immediately go to see what details that girl has. .... This photo is titled "The baby who was surprised that a girl had no mobile" and that very title reinforces the photograph and makes the viewer stay longer looking at the image and understand the meaning of the image.
When I understood this I could see how people read, appreciated and liked my images more, so I started to add captions to all my pictures and of course in my Ladies & Gentlemen series all the pictures have that little help for the viewer.
