La verdad que empecé el reto de la sinfonía de las luces gracias a la visita de mi amigo, aquella tarde, estuvimos viendo la sinfonía original que todos los días a las 20.00 horas se puede ver desde Kowloon mirando hacia Hong Kong.
- ¿Tienes fotos de este espectáculo? - me preguntó
- Desde luego que no. - Le contesté yo.
Más tarde y ya en casa empecé a pensar cómo podía hacer una serie de fotografías acerca de la sinfonía de luces y sin saber qué es lo que iba a conseguir e incluso fotografiar, me reté e mí mismo. Tenía dos semanas para hacer una serie de mi propia Sinfonía, de luces, claro.
Todo esto es nuevo para mí, nunca he disparado en color, ni he buscado luces, ni sé de colores que se complementan entre sí ni de contrastes de temperatura y más bien poco de los diales de la cámara. Soy un tipo ¨de blanco y negro¨, un caza momentos al que la luz se la trae al pairo, busco expresiones, humor, me acerco a la escena haga frío o calor y haya los colores y temperaturas de color que haya, en eso nunca me he fijado y sí en la persona delgada que se va a cruzar con la gorda que come una hamburguesa en la calle con ansia, en eso me he fijado siempre, es cuestión cultural, de mi barrio de chico, de la calle postas y todos esos niños que andábamos por las calles del pueblo. Pues bien, resumiendo. Me está gustando esto del color y tengo tantísimo que aprender....
El reto
Siempre he sido impulsivo, para todo y este reto no sólo nació de la conversación que tuve con mi amigo sino que salió del impulso de después. ¡Voy a hacer mi sinfonía de luces!, me dije pero sin tener ni la más remota idea de qué y cómo fotografiar, así que empecé por unas bombillas que vi al salir de casa, todo vale, me dije.
Estas simples bombillas (y foto) me hicieron ver, pensar, creer, recordar que hay un sinfín de aparatos que emiten luz y que si lo que estaba buscando yo era una propia sinfonía cualquiera de éstos valdrían para mi serie asi que de camino a mi trabajo empecé a fijarme en tantos y tantos elementos que emiten luz.
Semáforos, luces de los coches, reflejos en los edificios, carteles luminosos, farolas, carteles de establecimientos...todo esto por el día, pero y por la noche?...Todos eso y muchísimo más, ventanas de edificios y casas particulares, luces de coches en combinación con otras y una largo etc....
¿Cómo podría fotografiar todo eso y que hubiera u buen resultado?
Sólo había una respuesta, fotografiar sin miedo y mostrar todas las fotos que conseguía sin miedos a que nadie criticase nada.

Hay fotos interesantes y otras que no valen nada pero son estas últimas las que me están haciendo aprender y no las quiero ni borrar ni olvidar, esto es un reto personal y no la presentación del proyecto de mi vida para el World Press Photo, cuando deje de ser un reto de dos semanas y consiga más fotos de este estilo ya veré yo si preparo una serie que crea que pueda gustar pero de momento me limito a eso, a fotografiar sin miedo y a mostrarte lo que voy a conseguir en estas dos semanas con mi propia sinfonía, de luces, claro
Quiero acabar hablando del intencionalismo (ya te comenté en un post anterior)Haz lo que quieras sabiendo lo que vas a conseguir y no dudes ni un segundo en mostrarlo, sé diferente, selectivo, creativo, provocativo y atrévete.
¿Cómo cojones se enfoca la luz? Pues eso, desenfoca cuando creas conveniente

The truth is that I started the challenge of the symphony of lights thanks to my friend's visit, that evening, we were watching the original symphony that every day at 8pm you can see from Kowloon looking towards Hong Kong.
- Do you have photos of this show? - he asked me
- Of course not. - I replied.
Later at home I started to think about how I could make a series of photographs about the symphony of lights and not knowing what I was going to get or even photograph, I challenged myself. I had two weeks to make a series of my own Symphony, of lights, of course.
This is all new to me, I've never shot in colour, I've never looked for light, I don't know about colours that complement each other or temperature contrasts and I know very little about the dials on the camera. I'm a "black and white" guy, a moment hunter who doesn't give a damn about light, I look for expressions, humour, I approach the scene whether it's hot or cold and whatever the colours and colour temperatures are, that's what I've never paid attention to. I've always paid attention to the thin person who's going to cross paths with the fat one who eagerly eats a hamburger in the street, that's what I've always paid attention to, it's a cultural thing, from my childhood neighbourhood, from my Postas street and all those kids who walked the streets of the village. Well, to sum up. I am liking this colour thing and I have so much to learn....
The challenge
I have always been impulsive, for everything and this challenge was not only born from the conversation I had with my friend but it came out of the impulse afterwards, I'm going to make my symphony of lights, I said to myself but without having the slightest idea of what and how to photograph, so I started with some light bulbs I saw when I was leaving home, anything goes, I said to myself.
These simple light bulbs (and photo) made me see, think, believe, remember that there are countless devices that emit light and that if what I was looking for was my own symphony, any of these would fit my series, so on my way to work I started to look at so many elements that emit light.
Traffic lights, car lights, reflections on buildings, illuminated signs, street lamps, shop signs...all this during the day, but what about at night?...all this and much more, windows of buildings and private houses, car lights in combination with others and so on and so on .....
How could I photograph all that and still get a good result?
There was only one answer, to photograph without fear and to show all the photos I got without fear of anyone criticising anything.
All the photos I have taken are on the website https://www.miguelitor.net/retos . This is a personal challenge and not the presentation of the project of my life for the World Press Photo, when it stops being a challenge of two weeks and I get more photos of this style I will see if I prepare a series that I think I can like but for now I limit myself to that, to photograph without fear and to show you what I will get in these two weeks with my own symphony, of course, of lights.
I want to finish talking about intentionalism (I told you in a previous post) Do what you want knowing what you are going to get and don't hesitate for a second to show it, be different, selective, creative, provocative and dare.
How the hell do you focus the light? That's it, defocus when you think it's convenient.
